I know some of our members are having trouble posting on the forums and are receiving error messages. This seems to be a result of some bugs in the new version of the forums and we're working on a fix. In the mean time, if you're having problems please email me at the address below with a description of the issue.

Thanks,
Gaines

My beef is this:

1) You should have some kind of home page where you can easily click a link like "My Posts" to display all the posts you've made or commented on.

2) In your preferences there should be a setting that is set by default to email you whenever you make a new post or whenever someone responds to your post.

Almost every forum I have ever participated with has these kinds of features :)

Thanks,

Sir Dave

Why can't I post a guide?

I'm planning on doing the following triple-boot setup....Windows Vista x64 (Factory OS), Windows 7 RC1 x64 & Ubuntu 8.10 (Since 9.04 is the most unstable piece of crap I've seen). If I get it all workin right I'd love to post about it.

With the help of some imaging software like FREE Clonezilla or non-free Acronis True Image here's the general route I'll be taking....although I'll probably refine this later. The end goal is to have the three desired working OS's Completely independant of each other with an independant boot loader.

Grab an image of my Windows Vista x64 setup and my recovery partition.

Wipe the Laptop drive completely and install Windows 7 x64. Then I'll configure it to the best of my ability and take an image of that.

Then I'll wipe the drive clean again and install Ubuntu 8.10 x64...since Ubuntu 9.04 is freakin unstable and crap with this laptop. Then I'll configure it and take an image.

Lastly, I'll go ahead and use some free partitioning software like gparted or use EASUS Partition Manager to partion out my disk into 3 Primary Partitions and One Extended partition with a few logical drives.

Once that's done, I'll restore the OS Images to the partitions I want, use one partition for my data so that all OSS's can access it and then use another for my Boot manager.

The only thing I have left to test/figure out is what boot manager I'm going to use. I had thought of grub...but I may need something better.

Either way, that way I'll be able to use my Vistabox if needed, Win 7 and help propel the testing and Linux since well I can't live without Linux :).

Cheers,

Sir Dave

When in the Forums, you can click the Green Down Arrow and it brings you to your posts.

Also, when responding to a post or thread, check the Notification box before submitting. I think we had problems w/ this feature early on so I am not certain if it works now or not.

Thank you bro for putting this site together..

It is a Fantastic site and I am sure all the little bugs will be worked out..

I wish I had the background you have with software.. I would try more with my computer.

Maybe you can start a thread that is new tricks you have firuged out but that regular people can use.. Basicly dumb it down for the rest of us?

I would love to know if I could pull the two (2) 250gb 7200 rpm drives I have now out and install two (2) SSD's (Intell 80gb)..

I like the smaller drives becuase it makes sense to me they will pull information faster than a larger or deeper disk / SSD.. any thoughts?

Maybe I will start  a thread and put this where it belongs.. or maybe you can start one.. you are the Guru..

Once again many, many, many Thanks.

I hope you and yours are all well Gaines, JW

I wanted to say "Ditto" to JW's highest regard to you Gaines and to all of you who have made this a fantastic resource!  Also, I wanted to say "Ditto" to JW's request about having "dumbed down" instructions for those of us not in your league!  I did find the new tweaks for Media Center well laid out and very easy to understand and follow.  I found more details about how to actually navigate this forum here tonight.  Such as, how to find my posts with the "green down arrow."  That was extremely helpful!  Maybe there could be a "how to" instructions that one can find from the home page?  I know you've given your time to create this forum, and you are truly appreciated for all of this here.  I would be totally lost without you, and hairless too!  Wishing you and yours all the best also!  Mya

I'm so sorry Rageman!  I had not been here for a while, and for some reason had it in my head that you and Gaines were the same guy, with Rageman being an alias.  I found my mistake tonight.     I also want to personally give you all of my thanks and gratitude for all of your contributions here and for running the show!  All of you guys totally rock!  This forum is the best one I've ever joined in technology.  I didn't bother with the other one, when I learned that you guys wanted to move everyone and form a better organized forum about the time I jumped in.  You all did a fantastic job of it.   I like it here, and the member contribution is just awesome too.  I still enjoy reading the new owners, and just ordered section.  I haven't forgotten my own excitement, and I'm still thrilled with my new toy, oh, I mean (as someone else said previously), my new productivity machine!  I hope you have a fantastic summer.  And thanks for considering a dummie's guide to navigate the site.  Now that I understand the icons, which are attractive, I feel like it was such a "duh" on my part!  Oh, and what is a PM?  Take care and know you are appreciated!  Be back in a few weeks.   Mya

I think there should be some way of responding to guides or info.  Sometimes they don't work and the only recourse for help or assistance is to start an entirely separate thread.

A PM is just a Private Message.
